This page is written for Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's consumer health data law, and applies to everyone who uses Ola Wellness. It sets out the same facts as our full Privacy Policy, which has the detail. Where the two differ, the one that protects you more applies.

The short version. Your diary/log, weight, cycle and Apple Health data stay on your iPhone and are never stored by us. Health data leaves the phone only when you turn on a feature that sends something away: for Kai, a summary of your recent days passes through our server to the AI model and is kept by neither. Your cycle is in that summary only if you also turn on Let Kai see my cycle. We keep anything only if you turn on a separate switch, Help improve Ola, which is off by default. We never sell health data.

What consumer health data we collect, and why

What Where it comes from Why we collect it Kept by us
Food photos you take or choose for photo logging, or attach in Kai You To name the foods so you can log them. With Help improve Ola on, also to improve food recognition and our food database Not at all by default. With Help improve Ola on, up to 90 days
The words of a meal you describe aloud (turned into text on your phone) You To pick out the foods and amounts you named. With Help improve Ola on, also to improve how meals are understood Not at all by default. With Help improve Ola on, up to 90 days
Your Kai questions and Kai's answers You To answer you Never
The summary sent with each Kai question: about two months of daily calories, macros, fiber, water and fasting; steps, sleep and active energy from Apple Health; weigh-ins and goal; notes you wrote; recent meal names; and your cycle and symptoms only if you turn on Let Kai see my cycle, which is off by default Your diary/log on your phone, and Apple Health To answer your question about your own numbers Never
The name of a food you ask Ola to estimate You To estimate its calories and nutrients Never (only a count that an estimate was made)
A random install code made on your phone Your phone To find and delete what your phone shared, and to apply fair-use limits With kept photos or words, until they are deleted

In the law's terms, the health data that can pass through our server falls into these categories:

Facts about packaged foods (barcode, brand, name, label numbers, serving size and corrections) are shared without your install code and kept with nothing that links them to you; see section 3e of the Privacy Policy. We do not try to work out who a food fact came from, and anyone we share Ola's food database with must agree not to try either.

We collect nothing for advertising, and never use health data for marketing.

Other purposes. We may also use what we hold to comply with the law and valid legal process, to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public and Fresh Pineapple LLC, and to prevent misuse of the service, such as applying fair-use limits. We hold very little, as the table shows, so this rarely involves any health data.

Who we share it with

We share consumer health data only to run the feature you turned on, and never sell it. These are the only recipients:

We may also disclose information:

We have no affiliates.

Your consent

Each feature that sends health data is off when you install Ola. Turning one on shows you a screen that says what is sent, to whom and why, and the feature stays off until you agree. Keeping a copy is a separate switch, Help improve Ola, which is off by default and which no feature needs. You can turn any of these off at any time in Settings → Food lookup, which stops the sending at once.

Your rights

You can:

To make a request, email [email protected]. Because there is no account, include your phone's install code (Settings → Food lookup → Install code; tap it to copy) so we can match what it shared. The row appears once your phone has sent something under a code. We answer within 45 days; if we need more time we'll tell you why, and take no more than 45 days more. Requests are free, at least twice a year. If we turn your request down, you can appeal by replying "appeal" to our answer. We decide an appeal within 45 days and, if we still say no, tell you how to complain to the Washington or Nevada Attorney General.

We may ask for details to make sure a request is really from the phone it's about, and some requests can be limited by law, for example where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation. If we can't do all of what you ask, we'll tell you which part and why.

We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.

Changes

If we change what we collect, share or keep, we will update this page and the Privacy Policy first, and the app will ask you again before sharing anything under the new wording.
